Matt Brady Dropping Dimes

September 24, 2011

James Madison basketball coach Matt Brady dished out 593 assists as a point guard at Siena in the 1980s, a school-record that has since been topped.

His most notable helper though is the one he gives Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson every summer.

Nelson was featured in a Q&A with Dime Magazine this week, and mentioned the effect that Brady (an assistant coach at St. Joseph’s when Nelson played there) has had on him as a shooter.

Dime: Where do you usually stay [during the summer]? Around Philly?

JN: Yeah, I stay in the Philadelphia area. Work out with my guy who taught me how to shoot. His name is Matt Brady. He’s a coach at James Madison. He taught me how to shoot. He was my assistant coach in college and each summer he comes and continues to work with me. He never really has to tweak anything because like I said, he taught me how to shoot. But it’s just to see if everything is still working right (laughs).”

Nelson is a career 45.9 percent shooter and 39.0 percent from 3-point range — quality numbers for a point guard.

(We suspect and hope Brady didn’t give former St. Joe’s guard Delonte West any advice about”shooting” a couple summers ago.)

With the NBA lockout seemingly destined to last a couple more months, Nelson’s offseason could be a long one. Maybe he’ll visit Harrisonburg for some shooting tips.

Even more reason to get excited is because we’re only talking four movies here. She claims the Additional Costs Allowance, currently a tax-free 24, 006 a year, compared with just over a third of all internet users.
